Add a handful of great restaurants and there's really just one thing missing from Uvita: crowds. If you are looking for a beautiful beach destination that is far less developed than Manuel Antonio, Uvita is a fantastic alternative. The highlight is Marino Ballena National Park, featuring the famous sandy "Whale Tail" where migrating humpback whales can be seen just offshore. You can whale watch, dolphin watch or snorkel.

Uvita also makes a great base for exploring Dominical (12 miles North) which is a fun, funky hippie and counterculturist enclave with great shops, dining, live music, candlelight yoga, spas, bars and beach. The tiny town of Ojochal is 9 miles to the South and is know as one of the best foodie town in Costa Rica. Ojochal also offers easy access to Playa Ventanas, a small and beautiful beach famous for its sea caves.

Uvita is the launching site for the areas most popular tours, including: whale watching, deep sea fishing, horseback riding, hiking or chocolate making.

Nice property with problems.
While the loft is great for a couple wanting to be near a beautiful national park beach, it has issues. You must fill out additional forms for the property management company which handles the rentals, as well as pay an additional $50 for insurance in case you damage something. You can opt out, but that will cost you $15! You must meet at their office to get the keys but will be charged $50 if you arrive after hours. And there are so many keys! You need 3 keys just to get inside because the place is surrounded by a chain link fence. While they seem concerned about safety, the patio door lock was broken when we arrived and even though I told them, it was never fixed during our week long stay. We were on the second floor, but there were people in the unit below us and they told us their patio door lock was also broken. The air conditioner stopped working the last few days we were there making sleeping at night very uncomfortable. There were also multiple power outages. It’s located on the main road to the park entrance and can be very noisy & busy. While the site does say there is a fee (~$6 person) to enter, you must pay it daily and there’s no weekly pass. (If you are sensitive to sand flies the beaches have a lot of them and will bite up your legs causing itching for a week). On the positive side, the small pool was clean and great to have and you can see monkeys, toucans and parrots from the porch. FYI there is no dish rack to put clean dishes & no face washcloths.

Howler heaven
We were close to the beach, 50 meters, and the jungle sounds were wonderful. The house was well stocked and clean. The photos give a much brighter impression as the place was dark and a little drab. The stairs are high and steep so that should be noted for anyone that has problems with steps. That being said we were happy to be upstairs. The pool was clean and warm and the pool guy came while we were there. There were two washers and dryers so we were able to do laundry but one washer did not work. We reported that to the management company. Although we don’t watch a lot of tv on vacation, we do like to watch a little bit prior to bed but the speaker in the tv was shot. We told the management company. Overall our stay was nice and the proximity to the beach for sunset was great. The trails along the beach were very walkable too.

-Note the fine print- there is an extra registration process through Superhog-they ask for personal information and an extra security deposit beyond AirBnB, which costs $15-$45 non-refundable depending on what option you choose.
-The pool got dank and cloudy so that we couldn't use it, and though we told the managers, they didn't get it cleaned until the next day(when it was scheduled to be cleaned anyway).
-Location is super convenient and walkable (but not private if that's what you're looking for) Gorgeous view of trees and birds.
-Sliding door to balcony is very difficult to lock, the manager had to show us how to press on it just the right way and hold it while latching...didn't feel so secure.
-Overall comfortable place and great location. The extra layers of property management were a hassle and not very responsive.

Roiner (review from Airbnb)
We had a good time and really enjoyed our stay. The place is really close to the beach, loved the bird sounds and monkeys, the view to the woods is beautiful. The only downsides were no self check in, steep stairs to get to the second floor, and most importantly they required a non refundable additional fee after booking for an insurance.

Response:
Hola Roiner! We are glad you enjoyed your stay, however, I think you failed to read the property description. In each case of your complaints, that information was clearly shared/described in the property description. We would recommend you take the time to read a property description before booking. We would Host you again, but only if we were sure you had read the property description thoroughly. Pura vida!

The bungalow itself was wonderful. Great location being a few minutes to the beach and close to amenities. It could do with more basic utensils like a corkscrew and glasses. The locks were also difficult to work, especially for the balcony. Our experience with the property company wasn't great. The private transfer booked through them from the airport was 1 hour 20 late as they got the times wrong. They also asked us to move properties on Christmas Eve which was a day before our check out due to scheduling issues.

Almost want to write a bad review just to ensure this treehouse is available next time! 🤣
But honestly, it’s incredible.
Imagine floating in the private pool with a canopy of wildlife above…
Each day brought visits from white-faced or howler monkeys to the treed nature reserve right beside our private balcony.
We loved watching and listening to the playful parrots.
Our favorite spot?
The balcony, with a coffee and its comfy lounge bed and dining area.
Evenings turned magical as the pool lit up, creating a surreal jungle experience that photos can’t do justice.
This place was our own private retreat.
And for family or friends, there’s a great 2-bedroom on the main floor.
We mostly had it to ourselves.
Just a quick walk and you’re at the beach.
Don’t miss the spectacular Uvita Waterfalls - the 2nd entrance has the best access.
Tip for late sleepers: the wildlife are early risers, so earplugs might be useful!
We’ll always treasure the memories from here.
Pura Vida!

The treehouse really lived up to its name! Tucked beautifully into the jungle and only a minute walk to the beach. Adorable coffee hunt and delicious food only steps away! Comfortable bed, pumping A/C, and kitchen stocked with all needed appliances.

Short Stay
The place was nice. The pocket full of keys was a bit of a pain since you have to hide everything from thieves in Costa Rica. We literally had 6-7 keys with tags for this one house. Other than having a whole rack of keys the place was nice and easy to get to and from. I think the homeowner or the management company could easily clean this up to two keys. House/front gate key and all three padlocks the same key.

We were so grateful to be able to stay in the treehouse! You literally felt like you were sleeping in the trees with the monkey’s. One of the days we didn’t even leave the house because there was a family of money that decided to take a nap above us (there were 14)!
The home was only 5 minutes walk to the beach and there were several amazing restaurants you could walk to. Osa Property management was very responsive and helped us so much during our stay if we had any questions. We were so honored to get to meet and become friends with the owners who were staying downstairs while we were there. The cherry on top was I left my wallet with my passport, money and all my credit cards when we left and they were on it and found it as soon as I called. Thank you for making our trip so special 💗🙏🦋🌙🙌🌹.

This house has a good location to the beach.

This House is really beautiful. We stayed upstairs and were lucky because noone was downstairs so we could use the Pool by ourselves. We loved the Pool and i expecially the outside shower. Perfect for coming back from the beach and so beautiful in the nature. I even saw monkeys in the trees while standing there. Anyway we saw many Animals from the balcony too. So great :) the beach is just 5 minutes Walk away and you can hear the ocean . The second day we found out that there is an amazing beautifully and delicious Café Place just across the House. Highly recommended :)

The darhma house is nice decorated, very spacious and has a big kitchen plus fridge. We just missed a big cooking pot but apart from that they had everything you need.

Thank you for letting us extend easily one day ! :)

How do I explain this Zen gem? High vibrancy, meditative, relaxing, beautiful, lush, incredible. Meters from one of the best beaches in the world with consistent surf. Diagonal from Tiburon surf shop to rent bikes, boards, or get your haircut. Steps from El Hornito with delicious Argentinian empanadas and pizza. The pool is unreal gorgeous. Stocked with amenities for cooking including huge fridge so you can bring your goodies from El Mercado / Farmer's Mkt (Wed/Sat morning - early afternoon). Lush towels, laundry on site, high ceilings in the top floor. Huge shower, spacious accommodations. Balcony with a daybed, excellent people watching. Strong Wifi. Perfect location because you feel you are in the jungle but steps away from the beach in one directions and the mountains in the other. This place is unreal. You're in for a treat here.
